Center Students Gather for SYATP - September 23, 2009
Composed by J.J. Ford / Photos by Barbara Fulbright

Center High School students gathered at the flag pole Wednesday morning at 7:10 am for this year's 'See You at the Pole' (SYATP), a student-initiated, student organized, and student-led event. It is all about students meeting at their school flagpole to pray—for their school, friends, teachers, government, and their nation. This year's theme was simply "Engage, Go and Pray." SYATP was organized by Kara Harless, a Center ISD student.

Center church youth groups supported this year's event. First Baptist Church youth band, "At the Throne", performed for the crowd of students. First Assembly of God youth, "Parallel Surface", supplied drinks and Center United Pentecostal Church youth supplied donuts.

Center High School Principal Heath Hagler and 1939-40 Roughrider Letterman Julius Franklin Faulk - September 18, 2009
Submitted by Kathy Sawyer

Julius Franklin Faulk remembers playing football at Center High School. At that time the teams played on dirt, sometimes muddy football fields and although playing conditions have changed over the years, the Rider Spirit has not.

Mr. Faulk wore a #56 jersey on a Rider team of roughly 15 players. “There were only about four players on the bench during games. We all had to play both ways” he shared. Mr. Faulk started as an offensive running back and as a cornerback on defense. Coaches for the Roughriders at that time were R. E. Malone and J. B. Thrash.

Small team numbers did not stop the 1939-1940 Roughriders from becoming the “A” Regional Champions that year. Mr. Faulk recently donated to CHS his Regional Champions Football Letter Jacket. The two stripes on the “C” depict the regional championship.

Heath Hagler, CHS Principal says the jacket is an inspiration to current and future Roughriders and will proudly be displayed at CHS.
Julius Franklin Faulk now resides in Kerrville, Texas.
