Windham Tori
Windham , Shelbyville High School
Junior, learned this week that she
has been named an Outstanding Performer
at the 2009 Texas State Solo-Ensemble
Vocal Solo Contest which was held
earlier this month.
Tori, who knew that she had received
a first division rating at the state
level, received a letter this week
explaining that she was selected as
an Outstanding Performer at TSSEC.
Richard Floyd, State Director of
Music for the University of Interscholastic
League , wrote, “Of the approximately
85,000 students participating in the
regional UIL music contest and the
22,000 musicians who performed at
TSSEC, only 239 students earned the
distinguished honor of being recognized
as an outstanding performer. This
achievement is truly a mark of excellence!”
Miss Windham received a draped medal
in addition to the letter. Floyd explained,
“The medallion is identical
to those awarded to state champions
in all UIL events. Wear it with pride.”
Miss Windham’s picture will
be included in the UIL Book of Champions.
The annual publication honors Texas
High School students who reach the
highest level of achievement in UIL
competition.
Miss Windham’s contest piece
was Quella flamma by Benedetto Marcello.
She is the daughter of Micah and
Claire Windham of Shelbyville. She
is the granddaughter of Pat and Janice
Windham of Center and Charles and
Joyce Hughes of Carthage . |
